Blue Ocean Strategy Development

Business Challenge

This client was a small but growing service provider in the translation and localization space.  Their desire was to grow their business by finding new, unique niche markets that had the potential to be more profitable than their traditional line of business.

Solution and Services Provided

We led the client management team through a series of strategy and analysis sessions to better understand aspects of their current business and finished up with a Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) session looking at transforming their current markets and services into new “Blue Ocean” opportunities.

  • Created a segmentation map of their current clients according to industry, project size and industry knowledge,
  • Conducted a revenue and profitability analysis along those segments identified,
  • Conducted a full-company SWOT Analysis,
  • Culminated with a multi-day Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) brainstorming session.

Results

A number of very interesting findings resulted:

  • Profitability analysis showed that the segment the client was planning to focus on in the future was not as profitable as others,
  • SWOT analysis helped narrow down future segments to those that best met their strengths,
  • As a result of the BOS brainstorming, we identified two dozen new ideas and narrowed them down to two new service definitions that would take them out of competition with some of their competitors.
